It's Not Anti-American
Just like natural systems, technology ecosystems need to be diverse and vibrant.
Great ecosystems are diverse and vibrant, where trust and interoperability are key ingredients. This is true for the technical ecosystem in which we live as well as all the natural ones. Regardless of whether you love and use your Gmail, Facebook or Amazon account every day: you need to realise the future potential harm this is causing.
I've been a vocal proponent of investing one's time and money in helping keep our technical ecosystems diverse and vibrant. Great to see this article (Guardian) helping readers to find alternatives to 'big tech'. It was hard 5 years ago to find alternatives. It will be impossible in a year's time when the technical landscape has turned into a permanent desert. I encourage anyone to try something different: spread seeds, feed new growth!
Shout out to the excellent service from Proton and Firefox (yes, they're still in the game).
