The promise of a new year.
As January gets underway, Oxfam and the Guardian reports the world's richest 1% have already run out of carbon budget for the year, taking just 10 days. Begs the question, what are we all doing to decarbonise our lives? Read Exeter's excellent Global Carbon Budget reports. Three years left before we blow through the carbon budget to (vaguely) hit the 1.5 degree target (which is now unlikely to be possible).
Meanwhile, the US pulls out of the all important UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), calling them “contrary to the interests of the United States”.
In positive news, renewables providing more electricity than ever, globally. New forests are being created. Companies are waking up - despite the politics - to the very real commercial benefits of sustainability. Change is coming and it is good.
